Help Wanted: Winter Share Farm Staff

We currently have an opening for a Winter Share Farm Staffer.

Overview

The position runs from Late October (or earlier if you're available) until the middle of April. You'll help with all aspects of our CSA, which provides Winter and Meat shares from November through April. Responsibilities include preparing food for distribution to shareholders (by bagging salad, flour, beans and other bulk items), delivering shares, staffing the shareroom on winter share distribution days, staffing/helping coordinate meat share distributions, and other chores around the farm (possibly including clearing brush, cutting firewood and other tasks not directly related to winter shares).

Hours/Schedule

Our Winter Share program is on a 3-week cycle. Week 1 is largely about shareholders picking up food at the farm (on-farm distributions). Week 2 is entierly focused on delivering food in surrounding communities. Week 3 is reserved for receiving food from our farming partners and preparing it for distribution (bagging, sorting, moving to and from long term storage, etc.)

You will be one of two Winter Farm Share staffrs. Your schedule will run on a 6-week cycle (you'll work one schedule for the first 3 weeks and then switch with the other staff member for the other 3 weeks). Work hours will usually be confined to Monday - Thursday. You can view a sample work schedule here. We will work out the specifics of the schedule once we have hired both staff members and can compare calendars. (Since most applicants for this position have been farming hard all summer long, we want to make sure you take some time off in the "off season"!)

In addition to your regular Winter Share duties, we will also need your help with the new Meat Share distributions on November 22 and February 28. You will need to be available to work for a few days on and around each of these dates.

Living Arrangements

Our staff "cabin" (which is actually a small super-insulated house) is a solar-powered building we built a few years ago. Water is pumped by hand (and can sometimes require a little extra work at the coldest points in the winter). Heat is provided by a wood stove. Sunshine (and therefore electricity) is limited especially in the dead of winter. There are 2 bedrooms, an open living room/kitchen and a loft. You will share the living space with one other staff member.

Compensation

You will work 40 hours per month to cover your housing, utilites and surplus foods you'll receive from time to time. For every hour of work beyond that you'll be paid $10 per hour. Depending on how busy we are and how much you want to work you can expect to earn between $300 and $600 per month on top of your housing costs.

To Apply

We'll begin interviewing candidates in early July and hope to make a final decision by late August. Please send a letter indicating your interest along with a resume to:
