Pantry Shares (Sold Out for this Season)
- What is a pantry share?
- A pantry share is a collection of local, organic kitchen staples and treats preserved from the summer harvests of local farms. A dedicated group of people processes the best of their warm-weather crops (such as berries, fruits, and grains) to preserve some of that amazing summer flavor for you to enjoy in the wintertime.
- How much food is in a pantry share?
- We're still working to finalize the list of products in a pantry share. Visit the sample pantry share page to see the kinds of foods we intend to include. Rest assured - it'll be good.
- What does a pantry share cost?
- A pantry share costs $150. For an additional $25 we'll deliver your share to one of the sites on our winter share delivery route. Visit "getting your share" for details.
- Do you grow food for pantry shares yourselves?
- In 2011, we'll be planting a new patch of strawberries and possibly other berries for future pantry shares. We also plan on making many of the jams ourselves from fruits grown on other local farms. For a list of our partners, visit our partners page.
- How sweet are your jams?
- We like our jam to taste like fresh, organic fruit, not sugar. We use a low-sugar recipe that adds just a hint of sweet. We think you'll like it that way.
- Are the products local and organic?
- All of the products and ingredients will be locally and organically produced with some exceptions (some spices and the pectin in our low-sugar jams, for example). Also, where we use honey, it will not be certified organic because we don't know of any locally produced organic honey. (The certification rules are almost impossible to satisfy). In short, the vast majority of the ingredients will be certified organic, and nearly all will be local (again, with exceptions like pectin for jams). This is our first season providing a pantry share - once we know more about the details of our products and their composition, we'll pass them along to you. We're confident you'll approve. :)
